Collection: Belinda Kurczok
The design of birds fills her with awe. Belinda loves encountering them in nature, studying them and especially painting them.
For the past 20 years Belinda’s paintings have featured birdlife and flora native to the island state of Tasmania, where she lives.
Enjoying the challenge of painting accurately, Belinda paints each bird at actual size, whether it’s a delicate wren or an imposing eagle.
Bushwalking to find inspiration and reference for backgrounds, the artist spends many hours painting the intricate details of moss, lichen, ferns and branches.
Belinda’s preferred medium is matte acrylic, though used with a watercolour technique. As the artist normally utilises a natural white background, attention is drawn to the subject and composition.
Living in Koonya throughout her teenage years, Belinda absolutely loved the Peninsula lifestyle on a bush property, raising orphaned wombats & pademelons. Belinda’s parents always had art supplies to experiment with & she was really encouraged and supported by teachers at Tasman District High who provided references allowing the emerging artist to move straight into an Art diploma at TAFE following completion of year 10
'Inspired by walking in wild places, with access to so many beautiful, diverse environments here in Tasmania. The birds really bring life to those beautiful places.'
