Collection: Seedbank Exhibiton ~ Artworks by Amanda Walker
Giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) is significant and ephemeral.
Listed as endangered, it succumbs to a threatened landscape that is both visible and invisible to us.
Looking to the future, the combined efforts of volunteers and scientists are focused on the resilience of kelp spores collected from diminished wild populations.
Amanda’s work aims to remind us that there are limits to our knowledge, and as habitat and species are lost forever, monitoring, measuring, preservation and protection are critical to the survival of our marine communities.
Working with graphite, Amanda’s drawings unfold over time in a series of marks and traces. Lines etched into paper convey human interaction and presence within the fragility of our environment.
Amanda Walker's 'Seedbank' artworks take us on a journey, where science meets art, in a quest to restore Tasmania's Giant Kelp Forests.
