Alpine Summer 'Orites" linoprint - 2021
"Alpine Summer, Orites” is a hand painted linocut from a series inspired by the flowers that proliferate in alpine areas during the Tasmanian Summer. Tasmanian alpine areas are a fascination for the artist. Here Grace explores the extraordinary range of textures, shapes and colours that thrive in the high country, while also exploring the compositional aspects of the placement of the plants, the rich colouring, and the light, and translating these into a linocut that seeks to convey the unique sense of place.
In this piece, the Broadleaf Orites (revolutus), a plant endemic to Tasmania, catches the light while the Richea Scoparia sits in shadow.
This linocut measures approximately 30cm (12") wide by 40cm (18") high, not including signature. The paper is larger still, as pictured. Each print is numbered and signed with this being a small edition of 25
Printed using oil-based printing ink on Stonehenge or Arches paper. Each linocut is then individually hand painted with watercolour.
This print was featured in Grace's Mountain Flora Exhibition
